Kenya dismissed as "culturally insulting" on an offer of powdered dog food to feed starving children reportedly made by the founder of a canine biscuit company in New Zealand.
肯亞以「在文化上侮辱人」為由，斷然否決紐西蘭一家狗餅乾公司創辦人所提，打算以粉狀狗食給挨餓兒童吃的提議。
"Kenyan kids are not so desperate as to eat dog food," Kenya government spokesman Alfred Mutua said in response to a front-page story in the east African country's leading Daily Nation newspaper.
「肯亞的孩子們還沒有慘到要吃狗食的地步」，肯亞政府發言人阿佛雷德．穆圖亞，在回應肯亞主要報紙「國家日報」的一項頭版報導時說。
Daily Nation picked up a report about the offer of 6,000 packets of powdered dog food from The Press newspaper in Christchurch, New Zealand. The offer was made by Christine Drummond of the Mighty Mix company.
「國家日報」從紐西蘭基督城的「新聞報」上發現一則關於六千包粉狀狗食的報導。這項狗食援飢提議，是由Mighty Mix公司的克莉絲汀．卓蒙所做的。
In an interview with Television New Zealand recently, Drummond said the relief is fit for humans.Both she and her children used it, but she allowed it contains the same ingredients as Mighty Mix dog biscuits. When mixed with water, the powder would provide sustainable meals.
最近接受「紐西蘭電視台」訪問時，卓蒙說，這批救災食品適合人類食用。她和她的孩子都使用它，但她容許這批食品含有和Mighty Mix公司生產的狗餅乾同樣的成分。加水調和後，這種狗食粉將可提供豐富的餐食。
"The offer was very naive and culturally insulting given the meaning of dogs in our culture," Mutua said."We understand where she was coming from, and we appreciate, but it is culturally unacceptable." Being called a dog is one of the worst insults in Africa where people generally do not keep dogs as pets.
「有鑒於狗在我們文化中所具有的意義，這項提議非常天真無知，且在文化上侮辱人」，穆圖亞說。「我們瞭解她來自何處，也感謝她的好意，但這在文化上是無法接受的。」在非洲，被人稱作狗是最惡劣的侮辱之一，人們一般也不會養狗當寵物。
