Taiwan ranked first at this year’s AII American DAVINCI International Innovation and Invention Expo with 28 gold medals, 13 silver medals, five special awards and two special recognitions.
The online invention expo that took place on Wednesday and Thursday last week received 187 entries from 15 countries including Australia, Canada, Thailand, Peru and the US.
Among Taiwan’s gold medal-winning inventions was a drawing compass with three legs created by Lin Si-ai (林析愛) and Chang En-kai (張恩凱), both third-graders from Taitung’s Fengli Elementary School, the Chinese Innovation and Invention Society said in a statement yesterday.
The design enables the user to draw a circle more easily, it said.
Society director-general Wu Chih-yao (吳智堯) said that he was really touched when hearing the students explaining their creation with fluent English.
Cheng Cheng-an (陳政安) and Huang Tze-chang (黃子暢) from Taitung’s Fengtien Junior High, won gold for their invention using artificial intelligence.
The invention, which is designed to look like a Christmas tree, can detect the air quality, humidity and temperature, and works as an air filtration device and dehumidifier, the society said.
