EVA Airways employees yesterday unveiled a calendar featuring the airline’s flight attendants to promote children’s welfare and encourage animal adoption.
The calendar aims to promote animal rights with the message “adopt, do not shop,” project leader and flight attendant Lin Chia-feng （林佳楓） said, adding that it is the fifth calendar for charity published by EVA Air employees.
The self-funded calendar features 20 EVA Air flight attendants, who volunteered to pose with stray cats and dogs, Lin said. Aside from serving as models, the stewardesses did everything themselves, from makeup and hairstyle to location scouting and shooting, editing and financing, she said.
Lin said the project took 10 months, with the women traveling during their days off to shoot in different locations — from Hualien, Taitung, Tainan and Taichung to Changhua County’s Lukang Township and Pingtung County’s Siaoliouciou Island （小琉球島）.
The biggest challenge this year was shooting with animals, Lin said.
Many times, the models had to entice them by offering cat or dog food, she said.
The calendar also aims to promote the plight of disadvantaged children, such as Aboriginal students at Taoyuan Primary School in Taitung County’s Yanping Township （延平）, with members of the famed baseball team posing with the flight attendants, Lin said.
“We want the public to have the right mindset toward pet adoption, to respect all life and to appreciate those children from Yanping Township who are working so hard to pursue their dreams,” Lin said.
The group has printed 5,000 copies of the calendar, priced at NT$290 each, with NT$100 being donated to the Child Welfare League Foundation.
Lin said that 500 copies of the calendar would also be given to the private non-profit canine adoption agency and no-kill shelter Lili and Wang Feng in Tainan.
China Airlines says its official calendar for next year will be unveiled early next month.
As part of the company-wide initiative to provide the “NextGen” service in air travel, the calendar will for the first time feature both male and female flight attendants, sporting the airline’s new uniforms.
