Jeremy Lin (林書豪), the first NBA player of Taiwanese descent, arrived in Taipei last night for a week-long visit amid great public interest in his recent transfer to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The 25-year-old point guard’s trip was delayed by one day because he had to sign a new contract after the Lakers acquired him from the Houston Rockets.
Lin is to attend two promotional events hosted by Adidas, his new sponsor this year, and several charity events.
Adidas launched a limited edition of Jeremy Lin sneakers ahead of his visit and is offering tickets for fans to meet him.
Lin is scheduled to take part in an Adidas press conference today and then participate in a youth basketball camp tomorrow and Sunday with guest coach Steve Novak of the Utah Jazz.
Lin and Novak played for the New York Knicks in the spring of 2012, when the “Linsanity” phenomenon propelled the Harvard graduate to global fame.
On Sunday, Lin will take part in another basketball camp sponsored by China Airlines for Aboriginal children.
On Wednesday, he is scheduled to participate in the recording of a program for GOOD TV, a local Christian TV channel, as well as more Adidas-sponsored events.
