Florida has further burnished its reputation for deadly wildlife with the discovery of three predatory Nile crocodiles near Miami.
當3頭掠食性尼羅鱷在邁阿密附近被捕獲後，佛羅里達州有致命性野生動物的名聲更加響亮。
DNA analysis has confirmed that three animals captured in south Florida between 2009 and 2014 are true Nile crocodiles. The reptiles are ferocious man-eaters. They can grow up to 6 meters long and weigh as much as a small car. An estimate showed that 200 people a year meeting their demise in the jaws of a Nile crocodile.
DNA分析證實，這3頭2009年至2014年間在佛州南部被發現的鱷魚，是如假包換的尼羅鱷。這種爬蟲類是殘暴的食人鱷，身長可達6公尺，體重與一輛小型車差不多。一項統計顯示，每年約有200人慘死於尼羅鱷的血盆大口。
The crocodiles, normally found in sub-Saharan Africa marshes, swamps and rivers, aren’t fussy over their dining options, tucking into zebras, porcupines, small hippos and other crocodiles that it crosses paths with.
尼羅鱷通常在非洲撒哈拉沙漠以南的沼澤、濕地及河流出現，牠們不太挑剔食物，不論是斑馬、豪豬、小型河馬，甚至是其他種鱷魚，只要被尼羅鱷遇到，都能讓牠大快朵頤。
The crocodiles were found related to each other but not related to other Nile crocodiles kept at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or other Florida attractions. This means that the crocodiles were probably released by an unlicensed wildlife dealer, or escaped from someone’s private zoo.
這3頭尼羅鱷彼此間有血緣關係，但與養在迪士尼樂園動物王國及佛州其他觀光景點的尼羅鱷沒有關係。也就是說，牠們可能是被非法的野生動物業者釋出，或從私人的動物園逃脫。
In addition to Nile crocodiles, Florida is also grappling with an influx of Burmese pythons and feral pigs to areas including the Everglades.
