A Japanese whaling operator, after struggling for years to promote its products amid protests from conservationists, has found a new way to cultivate clientele and bolster sales: whale meat vending machines.
日本一家捕鯨公司多年來因遭到環保人士抗議，在推廣產品時遭遇困難，現在找到開發客戶的新途徑，而且成功改善銷售量，就是鯨魚肉自動販賣機。
The Kujira (Whale) Store, an unmanned outlet that recently opened in the port town of Yokohama near Tokyo, houses three machines for whale sashimi, whale bacon, whale skin and whale steak, as well as canned whale meat. Prices range from 1,000 yen to 3,000 yen.
一家無人商店「鯨商店」近期在鄰近東京的海港橫濱開幕，裡頭放置三台自動販賣機，販售鯨魚生魚片、鯨魚培根、鯨魚皮和鯨魚排，以及罐頭鯨魚肉等商品。售價介於1000至3000日圓。
The outlet is the third location to launch in the Japanese capital region as part of Kyodo Senpaku Co.’s new sales drive.
該商店是共同船舶公司全新促銷手段的一環，已在日本首都圈開設第三家店。
Whale meat has long been a source of controversy but sales in the new vending machines have quietly gotten off to a good start, the operator says.
業者表示，鯨魚肉一直都備受爭議，但新販賣機的銷售成績低調開紅。
Conservationists say they are worried the move could be a step toward expanded whaling.（AP）
