Taiwan on Tuesday won silver in the men’s table tennis team competition at the FISU World University Games in Chengdu, China, after being swept in the final by the hosts.

It was the third time that Taiwan’s men’s team, which this year consisted of Yang Tzu-yi, Li Hsin-yang, Huang Yan-cheng, Yang Chia-an and Wang Chen-you, have won silver at the University Games.

In the first match of the final against China, Yang Tzu-yi lost to Zhou Kai 1-3. Huang then fell to Xu Ying-bing 1-3 and Li lost to Xue Fei 1-3.

Taiwan’s men’s team advanced to the finals after defeating Germany 3-2 in the semi-finals on Monday.

Taiwan’s women’s squad lost to China 0-3 in the semi-finals the same day, taking home bronze.

Taiwan has 210 athletes competing in 16 sports at the University Games, which ends on Tuesday next week.
