A school principal spent a frigid night on the roof of Harrington Park School in New Jersey, after students met his challenge to read 10,000 books months before he expected them to. The school has about 700 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
美國新澤西州一位學校校長日前在哈林頓公園學校的屋頂上度過了冰冷的一夜，因為學生們比他預期的日期提早數月就達成讀完1萬本書的挑戰。這所學校目前有從幼稚園到8年級共約700名學生。
Davies had agreed to let them choose their reward. They decided to shave the school’s logo in his hair and send him on a rooftop camping excursion.
校長戴維斯曾同意讓學生自行挑選獎勵。學生們決定要在他的頭上剃出學校的標誌，還要求校長必須到屋頂露宿。
"I knew it would be cold," he said afterward. "But I didn’t know it would be that cold." Temperatures plunged into the 20s(below zero Celsius) that night in northern New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.
「我知道會很冷，」校長事後表示。「但我不知道竟然會那麼冷。」根據美國氣象局指出，新澤西北部當晚的氣溫，將遽降至華氏20多度（低於攝氏0度）。
As he thawed out, Davies said the chill was worth it. "The students were so excited by the whole thing, and if it encourages them to read, then I would do it all again," he said. "Just not tonight."
當身體逐漸暖和後，戴維斯說忍受嚴寒很值得。「學生們對這件事都非常興奮，假如這麼做能鼓勵他們閱讀，那我願意再做一次，」他說。「只是別在今天晚上。」
