TEMPLE-HOPPING: Aside from the president, the vice president and the legislative speaker visited temples to pray and hand out red envelopes to the public

President Tsai Ing-wen （蔡英文） yesterday called on the public to thank police and military personnel for remaining at their posts during the Lunar New Year holiday.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year yesterday, the president visited the First and Second Zhongzheng District （中正） police precincts, as well as the Military Police’s Mechanized Infantry 239th Battalion, in Taipei to offer encouragement to officers and troops working during the holiday.
Officers and soldiers alike play an important role in safeguarding the capital, Tsai said.
They bear a heavy responsibility and have a host of complex tasks to fulfill, including maintaining public order, participating in disaster prevention and rescue efforts, and carrying out special security operations, she said.
She thanked them for their efforts and reminded them to keep warm amid the cold weather.
Tsai also visited the Juesiou Temple （覺修宮） in Taipei, the Jhulinshan Guanyin Temple （竹林山觀音寺） in New Taipei’s Linkou District （林口） and the Renhai Temple （仁海宮） in Taoyuan’s Jhongli District （中壢）, where she distributed red envelopes that symbolically contained a NT$1 coin for good fortune.
She thanked the public for working together to overcome the many challenges facing the nation and wished everyone a happy new year.
Vice President William Lai （賴清德） visited New Taipei’s Zhaoling Temple （昭靈宮） and Lixing Fude Temple （力行福德宮）, Keelung’s Cingan Temple （慶安宮）, Taipei’s Longshan Temple （龍山寺） and Dalongdong Baoan Temple （大龍峒保安宮）, as well as Tainan’s Kaitai Tianhou Temple （開台天后宮）, Guanyin Temple （觀音亭） and Lingji Temple （靈濟殿）, where he also handed out red envelopes.
Newly elected Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu （韓國瑜） and Deputy Speaker Johnny Chiang （江啟臣） also handed out red envelopes at Taichung’s Cihji Temple （慈濟宮）, where Han said he prayed to the goddess Matsu to bless the nation and bring peace and prosperity to the people.
