《TAIPEI TIMES》 CWA maps first places in Taiwan to see 2024 sun

The first rays of sunlight on Taiwan proper next year will be in Pingtung County’s Hengchun Township (恆春), while the last sunset of this year will be in Tainan’s Cigu District (七股), Central Weather Administration (CWA) data showed.
The first sunrise of next year in Taiwan will be at 6:32.32am on New Year’s Day on Monday next week on Orchid Island (Lanyu, 蘭嶼), while the first sunrise on Taiwan proper will be seen from the Kenting Long Keng Ecological Reserve (龍坑生態保護區) at 6:35.02am, the CWA said.
The first sunrise over Keelung Islet is likely to be best viewed from along the Tiaoshi (跳石) coast in New Taipei City’s Jinshan District (金山), while Waiao Beach (外澳沙灘) in Yilan County’s Toucheng Township (頭城) would be the best place on Taiwan proper to see the sun rise over Turtle Island (Gueishan Island, 龜山島), it said.
The first sunrise over Taitung County’s Green Island (綠島) would be best viewed on Taiwan proper in the Jialulan (加路蘭) area of Taitung County’s Beinan Township (卑南) just north of Fugang Fishing Harbor (富岡漁港), while the best place to see the sun rise over Orchid Island would be at Dawu Coast Park (大武濱海公園), it said.
The year’s last sunset on Taiwan proper will be seen at 5:24.49pm from the Qigu Lagoon area, and the last sunset on Taiwan’s outlying islands will be seen at 5:29.16pm from Lieyu Island (烈嶼) in Kinmen County, the CWA data showed.
