外媒報導指出，由於南非政府以經濟不景氣、教育經費短缺為由，打算削減教育經費，引發各大學採取調漲學費及減少招生人數的措施，但此舉也進一步引來學生不滿，並於上週發起罷課活動。

據了解，目前南非各大學都掀起抗議學費調漲的活動，許多學生也走上街頭，在網路上也可看到不同型態的抗議活動，但也有學生在過程中與警方發生衝突，並遭到逮捕。

相關報導指出，有數百名學生於週三聚集在國會外進行抗議，一度打斷南非財政部長原本要就預算案進行的講話，不過隨後鎮暴警察就與抗議學生發生衝突，並施放催淚彈。
