The International Golf Federation (IGF) on Monday announced that Taiwan’s C.T. Pan and Kevin Yu are among the 60 golfers to compete in the men’s golf competition at the Summer Olympics.

The 60 players earned their spots for the tournament at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France from Aug. 1-4, based on the federation’s Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR) list as of Monday.

Yu, 25, is ranked 110th in the world by the federation and 36th in the OGR, while 32-year-old Pan is world No. 136, but 39th in the OGR.

Each of the top 15 players in the Official World Golf Ranking were eligible, with countries limited to a maximum of four participants. The remainder of the field was determined directly from the IGF ranking list.

Pan wrote on Facebook that he was excited about the prospect of representing Taiwan in Paris, and that participating in the Olympics has been his life’s mission.

This year’s Olympics would be his third appearance at the Games, after Tokyo in 2021 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. He won bronze in Tokyo, Taiwan’s first Olympic medal in golf.

Echoing Pan, Yu said that the chance to compete at the Olympics was a dream come true.

World No. 2 American Xander Schauffele would return to the Olympics to defend his gold medal in Tokyo. He would be joined by fellow Americans Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa.

Patrick Cantlay rose to eighth in the world after his tie for third at the US Open on Sunday, but he was narrowly edged out by seventh-ranked Morikawa.

Bryson DeChambeau claimed his second US Open title at Pinehurst, but he finished as the sixth-highest-ranked American, 10th in the federation’s world ranking.

The IGF is on Tuesday next week to announce the women’s qualifiers.
