TAIWAN IS HELPING: President Tsai met with UN envoys from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies, who have praised the nation for its contributions to the global community

Being Taiwan’s diplomatic ally is worthy of pride, as the nation is a great example and huge contributor to the international community, UN envoys from the nation’s allies said yesterday.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Permanent Representative to the UN Inga Rhonda King, who is visiting Taiwan with her counterparts from the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Belize and Paraguay, made the remark when the delegation met with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文).

Taiwan is an exemplar of good governance, unbridled creativity and innovation, unyielding patience, resilience and determination, making significant contributions to global peace, security and development, she said.

Its allies have benefited from its support in areas such as education, health, agriculture and technology, she added.

Taiwan embodies the spirit of the UN Charter: reciprocity, collaboration and inclusivity, knowledge sharing, compassion, peacemaking, good governance and compliance with international norms, she added.

The allies are to continue advocating for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the international community to jointly build a peaceful and better world, she said.

Tsai expressed Taiwan’s “deepest gratitude” to the leaders of the “staunch diplomatic allies” for speaking up for the nation during the general debate of the UN General Assembly and the SDG Summit in September.

Relations between Taiwan and its allies have been growing closer through cooperation based on the principles of steadfast diplomacy and mutual assistance for mutual benefit, she said.

Having witnessed firsthand the outcome of such cooperative projects during visits to these countries, Tsai believed that the relations would continue to strengthen, spurring mutual development.

As a force for good in the world and an indispensable member of the international community, Taiwan would continue to promote global and regional development and safeguard the universal values of freedom and democracy, she said.

Earlier yesterday, the delegation met with Legislative Speaker You Si-kun (游錫?), who called on the world to jointly fight against Chinese aggression, as Taiwan issues would have impacts beyond the nation or the Indo-Pacific region.

During a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) on Wednesday, King said that the delegation gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s policies and achievements in various fields.

Marshall Islands Permanent Representative to the UN Amatlain Elizabeth Kabua said that the allies and Taiwan “are as close as siblings,” adding that Taiwan’s commitment to safeguarding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is a model to the international community.

Nauru Permanent Representative to the UN Margo Reminisse Deiye and Paraguay Permanent Representative to the UN Jose Eduardo Pereira Sosa, both visiting Taiwan for the first time, developed a greater awareness of the importance of cross-strait peace and stability.

Wu thanked the five allies for speaking out for Taiwan in the UN, while reiterating that Taiwan is a force for good and a responsible member of international society.
