Local students may apply to join master’s degree programs at National Taiwan University’s (NTU) International College for the first time starting next month, the school announced last week.
A total of 39 Taiwanese students are to be admitted into the college’s four interdisciplinary master’s degree programs for enrollment in fall semester next year, the college said in a news release on Thursday.
The programs, which are taught entirely in English, are in global agriculture technology and genomic science; biodiversity; smart medicine and health informatics; and disaster risk reduction and resilience.
Founded in August 2021, the college currently enrolls more than 60 international students.
It initially only accepted international applicants, but many local students also see a need for interdisciplinary education in English, college dean Yuan Hsiao-wei (袁孝維) said in an interview on Tuesday.
As NTU also hopes for more interaction between international and local students, the college applied with the Ministry of Education to broaden enrollment, she said.
However, to preserve an English-language environment, the number of local students would be capped at 39, she added.
Tuition is expected to be half that of international students at about NT$40,000 per semester, Yuan said.
