A 15m stack of inflatable Disney characters floating in a harbor is the centerpiece as the Mickey and Friends Chill in Tainan event began yesterday.
The tower of characters — which has Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip and Dale — greets visitors at Anping Recreational Wharf, where the event is to run until Oct. 30.
The stack of characters from the Tsum Tsum range — a name derived from the Japanese verb tsumu meaning “to stack” — is illuminated at night.
There are other themed exhibits and Disney pop-up shops at the wharf and its surrounding plaza.
Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) on Thursday spoke at an unveiling ceremony for the event.
The city government has prepared carefully for the event, making plans to disperse traffic around the venue, and clean and maintain the environment, Huang said.
People are welcome to visit Anping during the Mid-Autumn Festival long weekend to enjoy the beautiful scenery and spend quality time with family, he said.
Tainan Tourism Bureau Director-General Kuo Chen-hui (郭貞慧) said that people can enjoy sunsets and take a canal cruise, which were launched to promote tourism at the wharf.
Formosa Yacht Resort, a build-operate-transfer hotel, was opened in June, Kuo said, encouraging people to take their time during their visit and enjoy the day and night.
News releases by Disney Taiwan and the city government would announce a “surprise” event to be held next month, the bureau said, adding that Disney Taiwan would also hold a series of giveaway events.
