A photo exhibition on display in Kabul recently was showing something rarely seen in public here： Afghan women smiling.
喀布爾近日登場的一場攝影展，呈現在此間公開場合中頗為罕見的畫面：展露笑顏的阿富汗婦女。
A mother stands in her garden holding a tray of biscuits looking happily at the camera,her daughter at her side. Another shows an old woman with a big, near-toothless grin on her face, her blue burqa shroud hiked up over her head.
一名站在花園裡拿著一盤餅乾的母親，神情愉悅地看著相機鏡頭，她的女兒站在她身旁。另一張照片顯示一名老婦臉上掛著笑容，露出幾乎無牙的嘴巴，藍色的罩袍往上掀起過頭。
The pictures give a glimpse into the lives of women in this deeply conservative Muslim country who for decades have hidden behind allencompassing veils or the closed doors of their homes.
這些照片讓人們得以一窺這些身處這個極度保守的回教國家、數十年來始終躲藏在從頭包到腳的面紗或深鎖大門後面的婦女的生活。
Taken during a photography course aimed at giving women skills to find jobs, the pictures reinforce hopes that the lives of women are slowly improving. But they also highlight the problems they still face four years after the ouster of the Taliban regime.
這些照片是在提供婦女求職技能的課程中所拍攝，令人燃起（阿富汗）婦女的生活正在緩慢改善的希望。但這些照片也凸顯她們在神學士政權垮台四年後仍然面臨的問題。

ouster：名詞，動詞，驅逐、罷黜的意思。

burqa：名詞，也寫成burka或burqua，是一種不透明、包住全臉只露出眼睛的面紗。阿富汗式的burqa 是回教婦女所穿的一種從頭包到腳的罩袍。
Taliban：音譯為塔里班，意思是神學士。一九九○年代中期，來自巴基斯坦及阿富汗伊斯蘭神學院的學生掌控阿富汗大部份的國土，成立神學士政權，以極端伊斯蘭教條治國。二○○一年九一一恐怖攻擊後，美國出兵阿富汗，推翻了神學士政權。
