(If, however, the Reuters report is the deliberate spread of false information),企圖影響台灣選民,「我們呼籲中國當局發表聲明,並建議路透回頭檢視其消息來源(…and suggest that Reuters better question its sources.)。」
Hou Yu-Ih Campaign Office Spokesperson Wang Min-Hsu pointed out that Mayday is not only a well-known band from Taiwan, but is also well-known throughout the world. Mayday's music enjoys incomparable popularity, transcends generations within the global Mandarin-speaking community, and has played a significant role in increasing Taiwan's worldwide presence.
Wang Min-Hsu said although a Reuters report alleges that the Mainland sought a political statement from Mayday, Mainland authorities have yet to officially confirm this. If true, the Hou campaign strongly condemns such actions. The Mainland should not force musicians to take a political stance and music and art should remain free from political interference. Not only will fans reject such interference, but it will also seriously harm the feelings of people in Taiwan and does nothing to enhance cross-strait exchanges. If, however, the Reuters report is the deliberate spread of false information to influence voters in Taiwan, we urge relevant Mainland authorities to promptly issue a clarification and suggest that Reuters better question its sources.
