Premier12 champions Team Taiwan are to lead a parade in Tainan on Tuesday, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) announced in a Facebook post yesterday.

As part of the events celebrating Taiwan’s win at the Premier12 baseball championship, Team Taiwan would hold more parades around Taiwan following the one held in Taipei on Tuesday last week, with Tainan being the first destination.

The upcoming parade in Tainan, which is being co-organized by the Tainan City Government and the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions, is scheduled to depart from the gate of the city government building on Nandao Road.

The parade would then travel along Jianping, Yonghua and Sialin roads before terminating at the Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium on Jiankang Road.

A fan meetup would be held inside the stadium after the parade, with participants allowed to enter the venue from 3pm.

Huang yesterday urged baseball fans to join the parade with written slogans and get prepared to cheer for Taiwan’s baseball heroes.

He also suggested that those who cannot attend in person could watch the livestream of the event on his Facebook page.

The parade would be led by Team Taiwan manager Lin Yueh-ping (林岳平) and head coach Kao Chih-kang (高志綱), along with the team’s captain, Chen Chieh-hsien (陳傑憲), and members Lin An-ko (林安可), Chiu Chih-cheng (邱智呈) and Pan Chieh-kai (潘傑楷), to share the glory of the championship with everyone, Huang said.

Some people online expressed excitement about the event, while others complained about the inconvenience of work or traffic congestion, given that Tuesday is a weekday.

Some also cited the example of Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani in the victory parade that the Los Angeles Dodgers held in Los Angeles earlier this month, suggesting the organizers should invite the team’s family members to join the parade.

Separately, the Taipei Philharmonic Chamber Choir (TPCC) also rejoiced in Team Taiwan’s Premier12 victory by unexpectedly singing a rendition of the fan chant Taiwan the Strongest (台灣尚勇) on stage during a concert.

The concert, “The Re-creations and their Origins,” was held at the National Concert Hall on Thursday.

The choir performed the fan chant as an encore, along with energetic cheerleading moves, which contrasted with their usual solemn presence when singing classical songs, earning enthusiastic applause and cheering from the audience.

The video of the performance went viral online later on, with some people commenting that “this is Taiwan the Strongest sung perfectly on pitch for the first time.”

TPCC music director John Ku (古育仲) yesterday said the choir decided to perform the fan chant on stage when they learned of Team Taiwan’s victory in the final game during the choir’s last rehearsal on Sunday last week.

In a similar vein, the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Ensemble expressed support for Team Taiwan by mobilizing nearly 200 people, including the conductor, orchestra, music arrangers and the photography team, to produce and record an orchestra version of the fan chant within 24 hours after Team Taiwan advanced to the championship game on Saturday last week.
