Individual tourists who arrive in Taiwan from tomorrow are eligible to receive limited-edition lucky bags to mark the Lantern Festival, Tourism Administration officials said yesterday.
The Lantern Festival-themed lucky bags each contain a Year of the Dragon red envelope, a mini lantern, a NT$300 coupon for an amusement park ticket and a NT$500 Taiwan PASS coupon, the officials said.
To get a lucky bag, visitors must present a passport or residence certificate and proof of their date of entry at a tourism center at either terminal at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Taipei International Airport (Songshan airport) or Kaohsiung International Airport, they said.
The 10,000 bags are expected to be given away by Saturday, with the aim of attracting international visitors to the Taiwan Lantern Festival, they said.
The agency hopes to introduce visitors to traditional folk culture of the festival, as well as the combination of traditional crafts and creative technologies at Lantern Festival exhibitions, the officials said.
The Taiwan PASS coupon, which can be used for transportation, invites tourists to travel throughout the country for more local experiences, they said.
The main Lantern Festival event is in Tainan this year from Saturday to March 10, with 300 exhibits in Anping District (安平) and near the city’s high-speed rail station.
The Lantern Festival falls on Saturday this year.
