NEW STANDARDS: Only products that contain 100 percent honey can be labeled ‘pure honey,’ while contracts for beauty services must be clearly articulated

The Ministry of Health and Welfare yesterday announced that four new policies and measures would take effect on Saturday, including the labeling of honey products and new rules for beauty services.

Under the new regulations, companies must label prepacked honey and syrup products correctly and authentically, with only products that contain 100 percent honey allowed to be labeled “pure honey,” it said.

Products containing no honey must be labeled as such, while products containing less than 60 percent honey must list any additives and artificial flavorings, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, rules would be implemented regarding what information must be disclosed and what terms cannot be included in standard contracts for beauty services, the ministry added.

Subsidies for residents of nursing homes would be raised from NT$60,000 (US$1,931) to NT$120,000, the ministry said.

An estimated 680,000 people are expected to benefit from the policy, for which about NT$7.7 billion has been budgeted, it said.

Several changes to co-payments for emergency care and prescription drugs covered by the National Health Insurance (NHI) program are also to take effect.

The NHI co-payment hikes would primarily affect regional hospitals and medical centers, and would enable such medical facilities to better treat people in serious emergency situations, those with rare diseases or those in need of critical care, the ministry said.
