Taiwanese duo Chan Hao-ching and Wu Fang-hsien on Sunday clinched the doubles title at the WTA Thailand Open in straight sets after beating their Chinese counterparts in Hua Hin.

The unseeded Taiwanese pairing defeated Wang Xinyu and Zhu Lin 6-1, 7-6 (8/6) in the final after saving a set point in the second-set tiebreak.

Chan and Wu converted four of eight break points and won 62.7 percent of their service points to complete the victory in 1 hour, 24 minutes.

The victory marked the 19th WTA Tour title for Chan, who is ranked No. 35 in the world in the doubles.

It was the 29-year-old’s first title since the Toray Pan-Pacific Open in Osaka, Japan, in 2019, which she won with elder sister Latisha Chan, and her second Thailand Open title after 2017, when she also won with her sister.

Wu, 23, previously had one WTA 125 doubles title to her name — the 2019 Taipei Open alongside Lee Ya-hsuan — but was competing in her first WTA Tour final.

Wu has now won 25 of her past 26 matches dating back to November last year, and has lifted four ITF titles.

This year’s Thailand Open, which was held at the True Arena Hua Hin, was the third edition of the WTA 250 tournament.
