A Taipei court yesterday sentenced a great-grandson of Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石) to six months in prison for making threats against staff at his former school.
Andrew Chiang (蔣友青), 24, was convicted of intimidation by Shilin District Court for posting threats against the Taipei American School on Facebook and e-mailing them to staff last year.
He can appeal the ruling or pay a fine of NT$180,000 (US$5,800) in lieu of the sentence, the court said.
Andrew Chiang was arrested and indicted in November last year after the school alerted the police of his actions.
Local media said he used the words “slaughter” and “bomb” in Facebook messages and he was also reported to have shouted and made offensive gestures outside the school.
Andrew Chiang is a scion of the nation’s most prominent political family as the youngest of the three children of Chiang Hsiao-yung (蔣孝勇), the grandson of the late Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) leader Chiang Kai-shek.
Andrew Chiang was born in Canada and spent a long time in the US. He was reportedly expelled by the Taipei American School eight years ago for missing too many classes.
