《TAIPEI TIMES》 CECC to run vaccination drive before further easing

The Central Epidemic Command Center （CECC） yesterday said it would run a COVID-19 vaccination campaign from March 6 to April 30 to increase the inoculation rate ahead of a greater easing of pandemic measures.

Those who have not received at least two shots of a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as those aged six and older who have not had a bivalent vaccine booster shot, are encouraged to take advantage of the offerings, the CECC said.

However, those who have had COVID-19 should wait at least 84 days from the time of a negative test to receive a vaccine, the CECC said, adding that 84 days should also pass after a second dose before receiving a booster shot.

COVID-19 vaccines are to continue being publicly funded this year, said Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Victor Wang （王必勝）, who heads the center.

About 1.3 million residents in Taiwan have not received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, he added.

“Regardless of how many shots someone has had to date, they should get a shot this year to ensure they are protected with an up-to-date bivalent vaccine,” Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices convener Lee Ping-ing （李秉穎） said.

People in high-risk groups might be asked to get two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine annually, Lee said, adding that the issue has yet to be discussed by the committee.

Taiwan yesterday reported 14,387 new cases of COVID-19 and 37 deaths from the disease, the CECC said.

The 14,083 domestic cases represented a 14.5 percent drop from the same day a week earlier, CECC data showed.

The deceased ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s. All but one had underlying health conditions, while 20 had not received at least three COVID-19 vaccine doses, the CECC said.
